Environment Details

When connecting to Hive to pull data into the Input Data tool via ODBC the following error occurs:
 

Error: ('HY000', u'[HY000] [Cloudera][DriverSupport] (1170) Unexpected response received from server. Please ensure the server host and port specified for the connection are correct.

  • Alteryx Designer
    • All Versions.
  • Hive ODBC
    • Cloudera ODBC Driver for Apache Hive Driver version: 2.6.1.1001
 


Cause

There was a linebreak on the host value. You probably copied the hostname from another source and it has a linebreak from that source that isn't appearing. 

If you open the ODBC log in Notepad++ and click on 'Show All Characters' you will see the linebreak (LF) at the beginning of the host value.

Diagnosis 

Test Result of DSN ODBC is SUCCESS!

Resolution

On the DSN, do a select all on the host field, delete everything and type the host value manually.
