Alteryx License Server Error when trying to add license key - The System cannot find the file specified.

Issue

When adding a license key to Alteryx License Server, an error can be seen stating "The System cannot find the file specified" if the password being used contains a pipe | character.
 

Environment Details

• Alteryx License Server

Cause

While Alteryx License Server can support the pipe character, Windows command prompt would interpret this as a reserved character and therefore it cannot be used.

Resolution

1. Uninstall and reinstall the Alteryx License Server and set an appropriate password during setup which does not contain a pipe character.

Note: The Change_Password.bat cannot be used as this will also fail when it encounters the pipe character.

Thank you for the article.

Allow me to offer a different solution... The pipe character is only one of the reserved characters in the Command Prompt... but there are others...

Example:

As a workaround, special characters could be escaped with ^ (caret):

That way, all(ish) the characters could be accepted!
