Tableau Connector Support for Ask Data

Please update the Publish to Tableau Server connector tool to support Tableau's Ask Data feature. The data source must be recognized as an extract on Tableau Server in order for the Ask Data feature to work. Currently, all data source published using version 2.0 of the connector tool are recognized as a live data source. The work around is cumbersome and requires multiple copies of data sources to be created and managed.

I agree, would be an improved feature.

Tableau currently says it is an issue on Alteryx's end.

Thank you for your feedback!

Our product team is looking into updating the Tableau Connector in the near future and is considering this feature for the update. While we look into the technical requirements and necessary timeline we appreciate your patience and will do our best to update this idea again once we have a better understanding on when or if we can include this feature in the Tableau Connector update.

This is not an Alteryx specific issue, this an issue with certain versions of Tableau Server. There are known issues with generating data sources when hyper files are published via the REST API to Tableau Server in certain versions which causes issues with Ask Data. Tableau has verified this is fixed in the following versions of Tableau Server:

  • 2020.2+
  • 2020.1.2
  • 2019.4.5
  • 2019.3.8
  • 2019.2.12
  • 2019.1.16

Thank you

Thank you for your feedback! As this feature is something that would be, and has been, implemented by Tableau I'm updating the status to Partner Dependent.
