HIVE 3.0

As stated in the help on the Alteryx website, hive as a data source in Alteryx is validated for Hive 2.0. We were wondering if the most recent version of hive is included in the roadmap and, should anybody migrate to HIVE 3.0, what kind of support can be expected in case of technical issues ?

Hello,

A good reason to support Hive 3.xxxx : it would allow to query the information_schema and get faster the metadata.

Cf https://community.alteryx.com/t5/Alteryx-Designer-Ideas/Hive-how-to-get-faster-the-metadata/idi-p/15...

Best regards,

Simon

I was just reading this :

https://docs.cloudera.com/documentation/other/connectors/hive-odbc/Release-Notes-Hive-ODBC.pdf

[HAR-883] Hive 3.1 now supported
The driver now supports Apache Hive versions 0.11 through 3.1.

The Driver can be downloaded here :

https://www.cloudera.com/downloads/connectors/hive/odbc/2-6-1.html

However, in the help

https://help.alteryx.com/current/DataSources/Hive.htm

Driver Details:The Simba ODBC driver can be downloaded here.

In-Database processing requires 64-bit database drivers.

The Cloudera ODBC driver can be downloaded here.

Hive 2.0; Simba Hive driver 2.1.14.1020

Cloudera ODBC driver 2.5.25.1020

Hi @simonaubert_bd ,

Yeah, however HDFS support is still in v2.5.0 :

https://help.alteryx.com/20221/designer/hadoop-distributed-file-system

It is "strange" to support Hive 3.1 + HDFS v2.5.0 as Hive 3.1 require HDFS 3.x.

According to Hive website :

@sraynalWe use hdfs with hive 3.x and Impala, no trouble so far. But yes, documentation does not exactly reflect that.
