inputting data from a CAD file

Atom

Has anyone come across a situation where they needed to have data on a CAD/DWG file as an input? Specifically I am trying to integrate attributes/ specs from blueprints. Right now it is a HUGE data entry process, but we would really like to be able to pull this information from the plans for our buildings and report on it. I have looked into possibly converting the .DWG files to .SHP but wondered if anyone had a better solution or experience dealing with a similar situation.

Hi @JLMToth

Have you tried using BLOBS? Spetially the Blob Input Tool. This should allow you to get .dwg files from a disk and save them in a DB field.

This won't be interpreting the data inside the DWG though, just pulling it into a DB or similar.

DWG format is not a format that Alteryx reads.

I haven't, but I will look at it. So far .SHP has been the closest thing I have found to doing what I need it to. I think this is still just a very unexplored area of use for Alteryx. (or any other program for that matter) Might be time to change the world.

Thank you for the suggestion
