Please can someone explain the configuration for the Detour tool.

I have a basic workflow which will need to ask user what task he wants to perform and then the workflow takes the route accordingly.

1 route is add and other is subtract.

What should I do to fix this. attached a sample workflow with this question.

Hi @ahsankhalid ,

the Detour tool always executes the steps linked to "L", if you do not select "Detour to the Right" in tool configuration. If you use a check box to select the steps to execute, the direction is changed, if the check ox is ticked. See attached sample workflow.

Best regards

Hi @ahsankhalid

To add to the excellent explanation provided by @RolandSchubert, I'd just like to say that there are other ways to modify a workflow based on user input.

The top container shows a solution to your original +/- problem.  The configuration in the drop down box is

Addition:+
Subtraction:-

The Action tool replaces the "+" in the attached formula with the value that the user selects, "+" or "-" and then performs the operations.

This previous is a simple example, though.  A more complex case would be to change the path of the records through the workflow based on user input.  That's what the second container does.  The RecordID start numbering at 1.  The filter is set up to pass all the records with RecordID<0 so all of them go out the false branch.  When run as an analytic app, the "<" is replaced with either "<" or ">=" to effectively route the records to the top or bottom branches.  These branches can have differing tools and operations in them.

Another thing about the Detour tool is that it can only be easily modified using a Check Box as the Input tool, limiting you to only possible choices.  Both of the techniques above can be modified to deal with any number of user selections
