basic join on excel fields

hi there,

i have 3 dummy files I am simply trying to join 3 cells on and make them be 1 cell next to it in the output file see attached

so Cell 1a on 123.XLS is "123"

     Cell 1a on 456.XLS is "456"

     Cell 1a on 789.XLS is yep, you've guessed it "789"

all i want the out put to have is a cell which is "123456789"

Simple right?

:)

First off, make sure you format these fields as strings so they can be concatenated. I used the Transpose tool to rearrange the fields so they could be summarized together into the desired output.

Check out the attached solution and let me know if that works for you.

@JBlair,

An Excel file with just one cell?

Here's a yxmd that will read that cell and solve this in a slightly different approach from @CharlieS.

Nice work as usual, @MarqueeCrew. I was focused on the fields and not the files.

@CharlieS,

I have doubts that the answer that I provide will actually work with real world data.  The files likely include data past A1.  I just thought that I'd throw another technique into the mix so that it was out there...

@JBlair,

Does that mean that my approach doesn't work?

The comma is the default separator when you concatenate with the Summarize tool. Clear this field and it will be removed.
