What happens to my license if I upgrade OS?

Dear community,

My company is upgrading the operating system of every machine. For Tableau, we were instructed to deactivate the licenses before upgrading. Is this also necessary for Alteryx? Where can I find more information?

Upgrading your OS in some situations I have seen this change your device name. When you license Alteryx that seat is tied to the device name.

My recommendation would be to uninstall the license beforehand as it will then be cleaner.

Hi Juan,

The new OS will wipe the license files you have on the previous OS.

So you can either remove the license before you are doing the update (Options -> Manage licences -> tick the box on the left side of the license key and the select "deactivate licenses").

Or you can do it after the migration asking you License admin to release (revoke) your license.
