Publish to Tableau Server tool log in error

Hi,

I hope someone can help regarding the error I encounter when I used the "Publish to Tableau Server" tool.

I don't know if this tool accepts SSO log in credentials as I am using one.

If not, what is the correct authentication method to used for this tool?

Do I need to contact our Tableau Admin to give my username a special access in publishing to the Tableau Server using a SSO?

Below is the log in error I encountered and the sample credentials. Please let me know if entered the format correctly in each credentials.

Many Thanks!

Hi @Mwatts23, I am very much not an expert at this tool, but I do use it and we also use SSO. I log in to our Tableau Server just like you've done here. The only thing that I can see different is that you haven't specified a site; is it possible that your user doesn't have permission for the default site? I always specify a site and I don't have any issues, so I thought it was worth mentioning.

Hi Allison,

Thank you for your reply. Do I need to enter the whole URL of the site? or just the site name? I hope you can give an example.

Best,

Michael

For me, it's just the site name part. Using fake info, if your Tableau Server URL looks like "https://analytics.mysite.com/#/site/mainsite/home" the tool config would look like:

I hope that works!

Hi @Mwatts23 , you need to add site name here to resolve this issue. For eg: https://tableau.myorg/#/site/mydashboard/home

Here mydashboard is your site name. After adding that in your configuration the connection will be successful.

If this helps please mark my post as solution, would really appreciate it!

Thanks!

Hi @alisonpitt and @grazitti_sapna,

Thank you for your suggestions.

In our Tableau Server URL, I don't have the "site" word like the one you have below

https://analytics.mysite.com/#/site/mainsite/home

Instead, I have this when I am checking the project folder

https://analytics.mysite.com/#/projects/479

or when I am looking into my dashboard, I have this URL

https://analytics.mysite.com/#/views/workbookname/dashboardname

Is it possible that I am restricted to see the site name?

Many Thanks!

Michael

Hi, @Mwatts23  when you login into your tableau instance the main page would be the site where you will get this https://analytics.mysite.com/#/site/mainsite/home.

Just a random guess try eapuat as Sitename.

Thanks!

Hi @grazitti_sapna ,

I tried your suggestion but to no avail. I ask the Tableau admin for the site name and it is called "default", but I still can't log in using that.

I also tried the "Tableau Output" tool but I encountered an issue after I published my data to Tableau Server. I can see the field names but I don't have any data when I connected it to Tableau desktop through live and extract connection. I open a discussion for this issue here https://community.alteryx.com/t5/Alteryx-Designer-Discussions/Tableau-Output-Tool-no-data-after-publ...

I hope you had an experienced using the Tableau Output tool and you can share your ideas.

Many Thanks!

Michael
