Identical names not matching

Hey all.
I'm using the Join tool and I'm matching 2 different lists on the name field.

1 input is an excel file

the other input is Google Sheet.

The column type for both is V_WString.

The strings are identical but they do not match.

Any ideas as to why this is happening?

I think showing an example (or better still sharing example data) would help a lot.

Hi,

Use data cleansing tool in order to clean tailgating spaces.

Hi @soncoku

You are identical, So it not exact 😅

Maybe you can data cleansing tool for clearing leading and training spaces. And use find and replace Tool for flexibility.

@Emil_Kos I've done that but it didn't help much. Also modified the case to Title but still.

@PhilipMannering can't do that as the data is confidential.

Hi @soncoku

Can you give find and replace tool a Try.

Hi @soncoku,

Two steps that I would take:

1. Save both in excel and check if there are identical.

2. Put them next to each other in Alteryx and use '=' sign in order to see if Alteryx see's them as identical. Exemple formula [Column1]=[Column2]

I would guess that there may leading/trailing spaces that you need to remove, like Emil said. But also, the Join tool is case sensitive so for example, 'SKY' and 'Sky' will not match

Hi @soncoku,

Try and remove the leading and trailing spaces from your data.
