After the intense interest shown to the community topic Available "Big data sets" over the internet...  (since ‎22-11-2015)

I'm now trying to split that into more meaningful, more focued sections. So that people can get an understanding of

  1. industry specific data and
  2. business problems that can be solved easily with Alteryx...

This specific section is on #Geospatial datasources, maps, road network data, traffic data, footfall data, points of Interest, DEM (digital elevation maps)

A quick fix for this in OpenStreetMap is to limit ourselves to columns that are populated in a meaningful amount.

For example, by excluding tags that have less of 1% populated rows the amount of columns shrinks dramatically, from over 5000 to a bit less than 100 in the Italian dataset.

Some work remains: lots of columns seems to have similar names and purpose, they could be somehow aggregated but it's something that imho should be done in collaboration with the OpenStreetMap community.

If somebody is interested to collaborate, I write a blog on geospatial analysis using open data and Alteryx here: https://opencitizendatascience.blogspot.com/
