Geopackages: Can Alteryx Open GeoPackage Files (.gpkg)?

Dear Community,

This has been a very useful forum for gaining knowledge, and this is my first contribution.

We're a university research group evaluating Alteryx and we have quite a few gpkg files that need ETL to a database.  I did not see anything online about this topic and it doesn't appear that Alteryx can open these files.   Is there a workaround or a tool?

Please advise,

Thanks!

Really?   Nothing on this?

GeoPackage files can be read by Alteryx by forcing the input file type to be SQLite. That is the foundational data format.

However, the geometry data is stored as a Geometry Binary Format. I've yet to determine how to decode that data.

So you can import and see the attribute data, but at present, I don't have a solution to convert the geometry data to a format Alteryx can read.

However, this is certainly a worthwhile avenue for pursuit.

Adding this link to the spec for WKBGeometry byte streams for reference.

By a strange co-incidence I also find myself wanting to open a gpkg file today. I am currently trying to use the ogr2ogr tool from gdal to convert my file to a shapefile. I will report back if I am successful.

Any update on your progress @AdamR_AYX ? Enquiring minds want to know. 🙂

Yes. Sorry I forgot to report back. I got ogr2ogr to work converting my file to a shapefile using the below command.

ogr2ogr -f "ESRI Shapefile" output_folder osopenusrn_202103.gpkg

This feature would be very helpful, much official data comes only in Geopackage format nowadays. Currently the geometry is not readable by Alteryx and shows up as gibberish:

Converting to shapefile is hardly an alternative, geopackage is specifically meant to be able to handle bigger data (that shapefile cannot) as well as store multiple tables and geometries.

@ngavish, I dug a little and found that there are other output format options.

And I wholeheartedly agree that this needs to be added. I'll create an idea post.

I have added this as an idea. https://community.alteryx.com/t5/Alteryx-Designer-Ideas/Add-GeoPackage-geospatial-data-format-to-the...

Please like.

Also shouting out to my SpACEals, @CharlieS , @Deanna , @Samanthaj_hughes for some love for this idea.
