Error : Publish to tableau server - select an existing project

Hello,

I'm having an issue with the Publish to Tableau server tool version 2.0.0 (using Alteryx 2018.2 and Tableau server 2018.1)

I've installed it from the official gallery. I've signed in to the Tableau server without problem, then went to the "Configure Data Source" part. I can see the projects, I can enter a data source name, choose the output options and data source format . everything is fine. When I validate, I get an error message "Select an existing project".

Of course the workflow won't run.. but I can't access the configuration anymore. There is a  spinning circle that never stops and the configuration panel is not accessible. All I can do is deleting the object from the workflow.

I've installed previous versions of the tool. So just after dropping it on my canvas, I can right click and select the version (1.09.2 or 1.08.1). Both versions work and allow me to publish to the server, in .tde or .hyper, which is what I want...

Maybe a next version will solve this issue, but if there is a solution to it, I would be interested in knowing it.

thank you

Hi all,

We are receiving the same issue. Our Tableau Server has multiple sites, however this issue only impacts one site which uses Nested Projects and use special characters in the Project name.......not sure if this sheds any light on the issue

The issue I was having is resolved now. Thanks to RusselG.

My site have nested projects as well... I'll give it a try later this week on a site without nested projects. I'll let you know.

Hi,

We resolved the issue......we believe it was related to a nested project containing 'special characters' in the name (ie -, #, $ etc) or a datasource with the same name residing in 2 nested projects within the same parent project. Apologies for not exact solution, we deleted a group of nested projects and the issue was resolved. Alteryx Support was updated.

thanks

Hi,

I've made some tests. I've created a new site and a new project without nested project and special characters. Basiscally it's empty, except for this one project. I've added the publish to server tool to my workflow, connected to this new site. I can see the project. So I type in a datasource name and select create. and then I still have the same issue.

I've a "-" in my server address https://xxxx-xxxx.xxxx.com. Could this be an issue ?

Hi,

Do you have any proxy setup currently? If so, do you have any wildcards (*) in your exception list for the proxy? You can find this setting by searching for "internet options" in Windows> Connections Tab > LAN Settings> Advanced > Exceptions:

I don't know - we are a large company and our internet and general connectivity to everything is proxied.

We won't be able to make any changes to any of these settings - it is likely that we have a very large collection of wildcard / domain and sub-domain level exceptions such as (*.google.*) and so on.

I am hoping that the toold can be changed to work without such issues - publishing tde's works just fine, but hyper extracts gives us this major issue.

I have been looking into this tool recently, as it will be a major timesaver. Like the others above I experience the same problem. After selecting the project, the workflow will give the error message 'select an existing project'. For me the loading icon also appears.

However when running the workflow, the file does get updated to the server.

We are making use of the tableau online server (https://dub01.online.tableau.com). Not sure if this has any impact on the issue.

when publishing as hyper make sure the datatype is vwString. hypher doesn't accept vString at all.

I'm reporting the same error.
