it most likely is the McAfee or similar security product as previously described. the symptoms are often sporadic and if you scan others descriptions you will see the issue can be intermittent and often seems to resolve itself you you click on other tools and or hit play several times. It is in the interaction of the security software as it analyzes a given instance of the job, the speed of network connections and systems in the environment that the flow and system software operates in as well...so hitting F5 a few times ( a refresh) or hitting play 5 times isn't fixing it...it is just finding an instance of interaction with the security software that moves quickly enough to avoid Alteryx subprocesses from timing out in their interaction of building a load module to execute. even an F% refresh executes a dozen subprocesses behind the scenes most or all are interacting with each other, hence the connectNamedPipe which are the threads of data passed between each subprocess. the security sofware these days often slow those processes as they inspect them for malicious behavior and thus you will at times have timeout errors as one process doesn't get a response from another called process within an expected timeframe.
So if you are getting a ConnectNamed Pipe error regularly or even periodically but it eventually runs without changing anything and you have McAfee or another similar product active, even in "observe" mode, then whitelist the recommended files and I'll bet it is resolved. BE AWARE that the white listed folders/files are different for Non-Admin installs vs Admin Installs as previously pointed out.
