Encrypting + Removing Encryption from existing Workflow/Macro

Hello Everyone,

I'm seeking your help!

When using the HELP/ABOUT option to encrypt a workflow/macro in Alteryx...

  1. Can you remove encryption from macro once encrypted? If so, how?
  2. How do I encrypt the macro but also allow everyone to use the macro without having to put their 'serial number' during the initial encryption setup? If so, how?
    • Basically, I want to allow them to access + use the macro but remove their ability to make changes to the macro (i.e. opening in another workflow canvas in Alteryx for modification/review).

Thanks for your support in advance!

Respectfully,

Corey

Hi @CoreyS

The Information Lab did a great write up on encrypting workflows/macros: https://www.theinformationlab.co.uk/2020/08/27/encrypting-your-alteryx-workflows-macros-apps/

Here is more info on it as well: https://help.alteryx.com/2018.2/ModuleEncryption.htm

The long and short of it is that macros and apps that are encrypted can still be ran by other users, but since they're encrypted they won't be able to open them and make any changes to the underlying workflow.

To my understanding, once a workflow is encrypted, it cannot be undone. I would recommend saving a non-encrypted backup version of your macro in case you need to make changes down the road.

Hope that helps!

Phil

Hi @Maskell_Rascal

Thanks for all the great information about encryption!

I'll review the documents and move foreword from there. I appreciate your help.

Respectfully,

Corey
