CONCATENATE

Hi I need help to concatenate cells together into a new column on Alteryx.  Any Idea on how to make the input turn into the output on Alteryx like you can in excel?

INPUT:

 2Capture.PNG

Output:

3Capture.PNG

Hi @Anthony13

You can use the Formula Tool to bring them all together.

[Owner] + ToString([Business Unit]) + [Account]

Hi,

to create this, you would use a formula tool, and create a new column called "Concatenate".

Then you would use the following formula:

[Owner]+[Business Unit]+[Account]

If any field is exclusively numbers, it may produce an error.  As an example, Business unit looks like it is stored as a number.

To correct this, use the following formula:

[Owner]+TOSTRING([Business Unit])+[Account]

For some reason the formula will say it cannot read Owner.  It will show up as an error saying "unknown variable".  Any idea of what could have gone wrong?

Hi @Anthony13

It's possible that your excel data had leading or trailing spaces in the header row of the Owner column.  That would cause any of the formulas to fail since the actual field name will be something like [  Owner] as opposed to [Owner].  The spaces are significant.

Is the Field Name really [Owner]?

How is this input being read to your Alteryx?

As soon as you input your data you can check the field Names in the anchor, by clicking on MetaData in the Results Window.

Also, if there's a leading/trailling space this could cause some error too. So, to be sure, you could erase [Owner] and type it to see if it pops up with the autocomplete in your formula box.
