How to Connect to Databases Outside of Alteryx

This article covers how to connect to various database platforms outside of Alteryx Designer. This will help determine if the issue lies on the Alteryx side or if it's an environment issue on the client-side or database side.

Procedure A - SQL Server

1. Right-click on Desktop > New text file.
2. Name the file test.udl (ensure to rename the extension as a UDL file).
3. Open the file and enter the SQL Server information in the Universal Data Link window.


Procedure B - Oracle

1. If you don't already have SQL*Plus installed on your machine, download it from Oracle's website , then unzip the downloaded folder into the Oracle folder (for example, "C:\Program Files\Oracle").
2. Open the CMD prompt > type sqlplus.
3. Enter the following command:


Procedure C - DB2

1. Go to Start > Type: DB2 Command Line Processor.
2. Enter the following command:
 connect to <database_name> user <username> using <password>


Procedure D - MariaDB/MySQL

1. Open the CMD prompt > go to MariaDB’s bin folder (Default: C:\Program Files\MariaDB 10.4\bin)
2. Enter the following command:
 mysql –u <username> -p
3. Hit enter, then enter the password.
