Install/uninstall: allow clean installation (aka fully remove any previous installations)

To avoid some errors occurring during upgrade or even installation, it would be great  to add an option in the installer to go with a fresh installation (remove any previous Alteryx Designer).

If selected, option would:

- Warn users that everything Alteryx related is going to be deleted

- Generate a log of what is going to be removed

- Rename folders and registry keys listed there: https://community.alteryx.com/t5/Alteryx-Designer/Complete-Uninstall-of-Alteryx-Designer/ta-p/402897

(rename instead of delete to avoid "bad surprises")

A similar option could exist when one would like to uninstall Alteryx Designer.

This would remove the frustration of having to rely on a "white knight" when something happens in the middle of an upgrade or an installation.

Thanks,

Thank you for your feedback! We don't get a lot of ideas pertaining to the installer so it's good to see some come in!

I reviewed your post and everything looks good to go. Be sure to check out our updated Submission Guidelines for any board or criteria related questions!

Adding a little info, from Sean Adams:

... A full clean uninstaller for Alteryx so that it cleans out all registry entries, files, logs, folders, temp files, paths from the environment etc.

And if possible - make it possible to run the uninstaller / cleaner separately in-case of a situation like where the uninstaller msi file is not working right. For example - if you have a bad install of the Python part of an Alteryx install - it's pretty tough to fix.

An uninstall should return the machine to EXACTLY the same state it was in before you ran the install. Alteryx currently leaves a lot of stuff behind with an uninstall.

Running both an admin and user install on my machine has been getting more difficult in recent years. It has gotten to the point that I have to do a complete uninstall of Alteryx just to get clean installs, but this is very time consuming. This idea is long overdue!!!!
