Copy Tool Configuration

Hi there

My idea is to have an option to copy and paste a tools configuration to a different tool of the same type somewhere else on the canvas.

Example:

Say I have four summarise tools dealing with four different data streams, I envision a 'Copy Tool Configuration' option after right clicking on a tool and then a 'Paste Tool Configuration" which can be applied across the multiple instances of the summarise tool by overwriting. This would preserve the tools anchors incoming and outgoing connections.

Benefit:

This would increase the speed of developing workflows. Naturally this would be significantly quicker than copy and pasting tools, and then re-wiring anchors. Additionally, this would potentially reduce human error when iteratively developing workflows.

This would save a lot of time, I have found copy pasting tools to be a bit finicky so this would be a great workaround.

Great idea. This will be so much quicker than saving a select tool configuration, and having this copy paste idea on all tools would be ideal

The already available way to do this might be a bit more clunky, but if you turn on "Display XML in Properties Window" in the User Settings:

You can view the full XML Configuration node for the tool and copy it:

and then paste it into your desired destination tool in the Edit dialog box:

Does this workflow accomplish the same objective -- albeit with a few more manual steps?

@zlonghofer Thanks for sharing this solution.

I still think it would be great as an actual copy-paste option, but this is a brilliant workaround for the time being. I hadn't considered copying the XML, but I will certainly be using this now.
