Here is a macro that allows you to pull down from the smartsheet API. Download and import the macro and save it to your desktop. Next you will need to go the options and click on User settings-Edit user settings and then choose the Macros tab at the top. Using the + symbol to the right you can navigate to folder that contains the smartsheet Macro. The Macro will now show up in your connector category. To use the Macro you will need to enter your API key and answer yes to refresh smartsheet Names. After you have a list of smartsheet names you can set refresh to No and choose the sheet from the second drop down to retrieve the data. Hope this helps!

Curious if you have any information on pushing data into Smartsheets? we are trying to figure out the API documentation to write to smartsheets with Alteryx, and haven't succeeded yet- so any info would be awesome.

For what it's worth I have been able to update SmartSheet tables by creating a JSON string with the appropriate row id and the cells to be updated via column id and then using a connect tool. The string needs to be converted to a BLOB field and the URL needs to include the appropriate Sheet ID.

For example,

URL = https://api.smartsheet.com/2.0/sheets/6070745282439044/rows

Header has the correct Authorization of Bearer [access token]

Payload has HTTP action of PUT and takes the query string from the BLOB field

BLOB Field is something like [{"id": 1069582813292420, "cells": [{"columnId": 3385737912575876,"value": "XXXXY"}]}]

For new records it would be similar but with a POST URL

I found the example code at the SmartSheet API documentation (e.g. https://smartsheet-platform.github.io/api-docs/#add-rows ) to be very useful. It particularly helped me to look at the cURL examples as I was able to translate these more or less directly to the Download tool. I.e. -H for Header, -x for HTTP action, -d for the payload

Will this work on Alteryx Server? I have been able to manually connect and refresh files from Smartsheet, but when I try to run those workflows from the server it errors out.

Thanks a lot for sharing the macro!! It is really helpful! Just a quick question, under the "choose smartsheet name", it seems list certain number of smartsheet. I have 100+ smartsheet and the one that I am trying to pull from is not listed in the drop down. If there is anywhere in the macro to increase the number limit? Thank you very much!

This is because the API limits only 100 records to be returned (https://smartsheet-platform.github.io/api-docs/#paging). If you open up the previously attached macro and replace the new sheet text input with this API url, you will get all values.

I'm not quite sure what you are looking for. The endpoint is specified in the SmartsheetInputV2. Can you be a bit more specific what exaclty you are looking for?

hi Thomas, I am basically looking to pull the column ID's with the macro posted earlier in this thread, and I was not sure what format should be the 'endpoint'. When I tried the url of the smartsheet, it did not work.

Are you referring to the "Get SmartSheet Sheet, Column and Row Ids" workflow from page 2 of this thread? That's the one that will give you all the column/row id's per sheet. You just have to update your token, no need to manipulate the endpoint.

Hi All - I see that the most recent reply on this thread is from two years ago and there's a lot of tool needed to output Alteryx to Smartsheet. Do we have any tool directly connecting Alteryx to Smartsheet now which would push a workflow's output? Thank you!

@lowkeyspglobal unfortunately not yet to my knowledge. I specialize in Alteryx/Smartsheet API and still have to manually arrange the outputs from Alteryx into Smarsheet via row/column id's. It works but can be cumbersome on larger sheets. If you need any help feel free to IM me.

Hi Thomas - Do you know how I can write multiple rows of data to an existing Smartsheet sheet via Alteryx? With the help from this thread, I am able to pull data from Smartsheet and write only a single row to my target sheet. I want to be able to write multiple rows of data into my existing sheet. I envision my workflow to constantly overwrite the data when I publish to my Smartsheet sheet. Any insight into this is much appreciated! Thank you.

Unfortunately, I don't believe so.

In the macro it's important that you update the 'Bearer' in each download tool, otherwise you won't get anything in return. Alternatively you can use the ODBC connector as metioned above.

I would like to pull all the data from Smartsheet A and overwrite the data in Smartsheet B. Can someone suggest how I can do so using Alteryx. I am able to read the entire data from Smartsheet A using ODBC connector. Any help in this regards is highly appreciated

@ksabha99 unfortunately the Smartsheet ODBC connector is limited to download only (which is a major pain and I hope they will fix that in the future).

As my business is mainly focused on Smartsheet/Alteryx interaction I've spent a lot of time to build macros that combine row/column/sheet id's. There are some basic macros you can find here in the forum that explain how to 'update rows. See link below:

You can turn the 'update rows' workflow into a macro, but it gets quite difficult once you have a sheet with 50 columns.

Hi everyone,

Thank you for all the posts on this thread they have been a great help working with Smartsheet data and Alteryx.

I have a question, has anybody been successful in connecting a smartsheet report to this input macro? For me only the sheet ids successfully generate data within the workflow. I can see the reports have a report ID and not a sheet ID.

I have the option to re do all the filters from the core sheets, however this is quite a big piece of work with over 30-40 reports active in use.
