"Data at the root level is invalid" when attempting to open a .YXMD file

I need this workflow for a school assignment. Any idea how I can open it successfully?

Try opening the .yxmd file in Notepad or Notepad++ and see whether you can compare it with a different workflow that works.  It could be as simple as the xml missing a tag.
