"Cache and Run Worflow" Grayout

fnkankeu

Hi,

I am trying to "cache and run" on a tool that I created but the option doesn't seems to be available (image 1). At the beginning, I thought it was because I had a Text Box tool attached to it but I created a new workflow with the text box tool attached to it and to my surprise, the cache and run workflow option is available (image 2). I checked for a solution but I couldn't find anything that helped.

Can someone help me understand what might be the issue with the workflow?

Much appreciated.

Based on your screenshot, it looks like it may be in a circle which is a limitation: https://knowledge.alteryx.com/index/s/article/What-Can-t-Be-Cached-1583461085678#:~:text=Tools%20wit....

Thanks for the reply but I don't think it is my case here. My output is not split into 2.

It doesn’t matter about multiple outputs, it matters about your input and output. You seem to have an interface tool connected to it that goes off into another part of the workflow, and and my guess is that it connects later on too. A “circle” then is likely the cause - that’s all I can assume from the screenshots

As an attachment is a picture of a part of my workflow. I am trying to cache the tool highlighted in red. Can you tell me where you see a circle? I don't see any.

Thanks.

It’s hard to see without the entire workflow but my guess is that there’s a place later on in your workflow that creates a “circle”. Without the workflow though, it’s hard to tell - these are just assumptions from my experience as that’s the only time I find caching greyed out in my workflows.

You can test my theory by trying to cache at the tools afterwards - if they are greyed out too, my theory is correct. Otherwise I would reference the article above and see if any of the other possibilities apply. If not, contact Mission Control and submit a case

Also one workaround if my test fails and you are able to cache at the tools after - you could then bring down a Select tool that doesn’t do anything, but at least gives you a place to can be

As an attachment the workflow I am trying to run. You won't be able to run it but can you identify what might be the issue?

Thanks

You're right - I am not sure what's going on. It looks like it's caused by the Interface tools which is odd - once I deleted them caching was available. What I'd do then is Open Debug under Interface Designer (with some test values), and in the debug workflow you should be able to cache.Debug Workflow (alteryx.com)

Otherwise it may be worth reporting to Mission Control.

This is what I thought. Thank you very much for your help on this. I will report it to Mission Control.

Thanks
