change all fields from vstring to numeric

(this should be easy but i can't figure it out)

i've got a file where all the fields are of type v_string. i want all of them to be numeric except for 1, which should be changed to date. how do I do that? i tried select (tool) , select all and changing the type in int16 but that only changed the first entry, not all the fields. what am i doing wrong? thanks

You can select use SHIFT with the left cursor to highlight all fields that you want and then OPTION change field type to the data type of your choosing.
