YXI Not a Supported Install Type - Unable to Install Tools

Question

Every time I try to install a YXI tool after downloading it from marketplace add on, I receive an error message saying this is not a supported install type.

Currently I am trying to install the Outlook 365 tool. I am on version 2025.1.1.27 and have confirmed there are no other versions of this particular Outlook tool anywhere on my device.

I have tried various other marketplace add ons, and each time they download successfully to my C:\Users\mallie.feltner\AppData\Roaming\Alteryx\Tools folder , but when I try to install the tool in Alteryx I get the same error message that it is not a supported install type.

Looking for any advice on how to troubleshoot or resolve this if anyone has experienced anything similar with all yxi tools.

Try changing the .yxi file to .zip and opening it.  If there is Config.xml or ToolConfig.xml then your file or download is likely bad or corrupted.  Try re-downloading it from the source.

If you open it up and all it has are standard Alteryx file types like .yxmd or .yxmc (and not the above .xml files) then just copy/paste those files and drop them into Alteryx.

Not super confident this will solve it, but it's worth a try.  Cheers, -Jay

Hello, That error pops up because Alteryx is trying to "install" the tool into the exact same folder where the download is sitting, which causes a loop. Try moving the .yxi file out of that AppData folder and onto your Desktop, then open Alteryx and use File > Open to browse to it. This forces the installer to trigger properly and should get that Outlook 365 tool up and running.
