What is this odd symbol in data cells? How to data cleanse it?

Hello,

Inputting an .xlsx file, (a downloaded report) have a column named "Check Number" that reads in as a V_WSting.  Need to convert it so a Number but the usual tools, Data Cleansing, ToNumber() does not work.  Get the error:  ConvError: Select (4): Check Number: ‭25654‬ is not a valid number.  When looking at the cells in the Input Preview window there are small white and black pins at the start and end of the data.  What are these?  How do I get rid of them so I can make the field a Number?  Thank you
