Updating Value in filter tool using App tools

Hi Everyone 

I have been trying to update string values in a filter tool using the App interface tools. The string values as dates converted to strings. I am using a text box for input from the user .

However , it does not update the input and run the app with default filter values. Can anyone please point out my mistake or suggest any alternate approach for this.

One of the easy way would be to use like this

Attaching text box to Q and directly comparing it.
