Unable to Create YXI through ayx_plugin_cli

I am trying to create a tool through the Platform SDK, I have followed all the steps as instructed in Getting Started Guide and since I've been getting an error, I have uninstalled, reinstalled npm multiple times and manually tried to resolve dependencies. Still to no avail, I am not able to use either

ayx_plugin_cli designer-install

or

 ayx_plugin_cli create-yxi

What can I do to use the Platform SDK properly? I want to develop both the functional tool and the front-end UI.

Try posting this question in Dev Space.  That's where all the SDK gurus play.
