Does anyone have experience with scheduling workflows to run on a schedule in Designer using the Windows Task Scheduler, or through another process? We have a few workflows that need to run every day and want to avoid Server. Any thoughts / experiences would be appreciated.
The schedules are simple and alerts and summaries are included in the workflows as outputs.
You can't do that. The only ways to schedule are through the Alteryx Server or the Alteryx Cloud environment.
hi @hartings
Previously that was possible with Alteryx Desktop Automation add-in license, but Alteryx terminated to continue it. As of today, no choice other than Alteryx Server in case of on-premise data process.
Other workaround is to configure Power Automate RPA so it runs Workflow periodically, but it needs the knowledge on Power Automate and would be complicated.
We are running 21.1.5 as our version. I'll look into the release notes to see if there is a benefit to upgrading for scheduler functionality.
@flying008 No choice on Designer Desktop.
@hartings It is not a matter of version you use, but regardless of version, you can NOT schedule workflow execution as I explained. In order to schedule workflow, we have to go with Alteryx Server(but it costs!)
Hey - to be clear there was a standalone scheduling prodcut for the desktop - it was discontinued. Some users are grandfathered in. There may be ways to use windows task scheduler/powershell et al. There may be threads about them on this forum if you search around enough - but they are against the terms of your license agreement with Alteryx.
