Saving Workflow - Workflow was not saved Illegal characters in path

I have created a workflow and trying to move to UAT. It is starting

Saving Workflow

Workflow was not saved

illegal characters in path

I cant see any characters in the path name of file I am using.

The workflow runs fine with no issues.

I cant see any ref where these illegal characters might be. 

Does anyone know what might be causing this. Are there any logs or setting i can check to see what is causing this issue?

I cant share the pathnames unfortunately. I was just wondering if anyone can share what they may know might be causing this and whether they have seen before.

check for four pipes? tbh - I have strong memories of receiving this error -but not of the fix. I don't think it had to do with too many pipies - by maybe?
