SAS ODBC Driver Locks Up

Our organization is having an issue with the SAS ODBC driver 9.4 just installed along with the Alteryx 2019.4 upgrade.

I upgraded the SAS ODBC driver prior to updating my version of Alteryx, and the connection worked fine with no delays.

I upgraded Alteryx – the connection problems started.

I reinstalled the ODBC driver with no change.

I am able to add an input tool to a blank canvas, and select the SAS ODBC connection, connect to the table/field browser and either select one of the SAS tables, select fields, and set sort criteria, etc., or write the SQL code. Once the OK button is clicked Alteryx returns to the Designer view but hangs indefinitely. (i.e. over 20 minutes and counting)

I am unable to click anything else within Alteryx and the ‘not responsive’ message never appears. Alteryx continues to consume 34% of CPU and 200+Meg of memory, which suggests it is attempting to refresh the settings in the Input Tool with the SQL statement. My SQL was to Select MemberID only for the a member table. (1 million+ records)

I am wondering if there is a configuration setting, either in the ODBC driver, or in the advanced section of Alteryx that might remedy this.

Interestingly, I can successfully extract the entire SAS table I called with a query I had on hand from before, but I cannot modify that query, because doing so causes the hang.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Hello @rgusaas

Thank you for posting to the Community!

Currently, SAS data is only supported to be consumed in Alteryx by reading in or outputting a .sas7bdat file.

For a full listing of our current supported databases/file types please check out our Supported Data Sources help page.

Please check out this Idea, and like it so that our product team knows this is still a requested feature.

Additionally, please check out this KB for Connecting to a Data Source not listed in Supported Data Sources.

Thanks,
TrevorS
