Replacing Empty Fields

Question

I have about 30 columns, some of which have empty records.  The empty records vary by column.  I want to place an "X" in the empty records in all columns.  I don't really want to do an IF statement because of the amount of columns.  Is there any easier way?

There are at least 2 ways of achieving this:

1. Transpose all required columns to rows. then update the Value field using Formula tool, then Cross tab all the rows back to columns

2. use one Multi Field Formula tool to update all the columns you need in one go
