I've been using the Publish to Tableau Server tool successfully with on-prem server, but recently spun up a Tableau Online site and cannot get the tool to authenticate the connection.
Read through the Alteryx documentation a few community posts and noted the differences for connecting to Online, specifically designating the full path for the site.
Receiving Status 401: Unauthorized and Signin Error 401001: Errors Signing into Tableau Server
We are using SAML Auth for most users and am aware the tool does not work with a SAML auth'd account but the credentials I'm using are listed under Tableau Auth to bypass SAML.
Also tried, at the suggestion of Tableau, using the related IP Address instead of the resolved URL - no luck.
Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Hi @LHolmes,
We've had success with this, but user authentication in Tableau Online needs to be set to username and password.

Hi @ggruccio ,
We figured it out this afternoon. The documentation at https://help.alteryx.com/2018.3/TableauServerPublish.htm states the Site input needs the full URL:
What we found is that it only needs the site name listed. In the example above mycompanysite is all that needs to be entered in the Site input:
We are back up and running.
Cheers!

Hi Alteryx Community,
Have a question. Is it possible to use the Publish to Tableau Server tool when a user is set up with SSO on Tableau Online?
Thanks in advance for any help provided.

Hi @Thorsty1 , that is unfortunately not possible since we're using Tableau's API, which does not support SSO. If the username/password is possible to be used, the only other option is to use Personal Access Token, which is supported in the new Tableau Output tool. However, so far only Tableau Cloud is supported and On-Prem is coming in 2 months.

So using our service account, we're able to sign in, but when running the workflow we still get the Error Code 401001. The tool was working fine before an upgrade to Designer 2022.1.1.42654. Since that upgrade and subsequent downgrade to the known working version (2021.2.2.45235) continues to happen. I thought it might be a password issue, but there are published workflows on Alteryx Gallery within our domain that use the tool and current password without issue. Any recommendations on how to restore use of the tool? Thanks in advance.
