Polygon Heat Map

Hi community,

I have challenged myself over the last week to try to do as much visualisation in Alteryx as I can instead of exporting the data to a Tableau file and then create the visualisation there.

I'm currently trying to create a heat map of the 28 polygons of an area of interest and each polygon has a numeric index ranging from 0 to 1.  I am using this index to create the heatmap.

Firstly, here is my map and polygon:

This is the heat map I've created in Tableau:

I am trying to replicate the Tableau heat map in Alteryx by using the Heat Map tool:

Based the above Heat Map tool set up, it gives me the output below which is not what I want.  I am after something similar to the Tableau heatmap - what am I doing wrong?

thanks

Hi, @LIOUJ

Please provide a sample file of the input data. Cheers!

Hey @LIOUJ, the Heat Map tool is used to create a polygon-based heatmap using the proximity/'heat' of individual points. If you already have your polygons defined, as well as the numeric value associated with them, then I'd just jump straight into the Report Map tool. Under the 'Data' tab, you'll want to select your polygon field as the Spatial Field and the numeric scale as your Thematic Field:

If you then head into Layers and add your polygon layer:

You can then find it in the list below and expand the layer to reveal the Theme option, where you can set the colours to scale to/from, as well as the methodology for the scale etc like so:

When you run the flow, you'll then get an output with your polygons coloured in a gradient based on your numeric field:

That is exactly what I'm trying to do in terms of getting the intensity colour shading for the SA1 polygons (first attachment), however is there a way to add Alteryx Streets to the background (attachment 2) similar to what I can see in the Browse tool?  If so then it would be identical to the Tableau solution.

thanks

John

@DataNath
Nice. I was wondering how. Thanks.

Hey @LIOUJ, sorry, completely missed this! If you go into the main 'Settings' tab and hit the Reference Base Map dropdown - this will be [None] as default so will just need to be changed to whatever your preference is!

Knew its got to be there somewhere, looked everywhere for it but couldn't find it ... 😀.   That's perfect. Thanks!
