Play Sound on Workflow Completion

When my workflows complete (Version: 2024.2.1.14) I'm getting the new popup message but no sound is playing, even though I have checked the box to play a sound.  The audio on my Windows 11 computer is working fine otherwise, and I've tried applying some of the WIndows system sounds that were unchecked, but nothing seems to play a sound.

Is Alteryx using a Windows system sound, or is there a separate sound file that I should verify is there?  Has anyone else encountered this issue?

Is this a new problem that was say working yesterday but not today? If so, maybe a reboot will help. Since you have the sound box checked in Alteryx you can try these steps to restart windows audio system and see if that works; otherwise, maybe someone else can help here or your IT if you have that available to you.

  • Press windows + R, type services.msc and press Enter
  • Find Windows Audio, right click and select Restart.

@pliskers Check your Volume mixer settings through System->Sound_>Volume mixer.

Can also navigate through:

Unmuting this worked for me.

Through much trial and error I discovered the issue.  The event that triggers the system sound that plays when a workflow completes has been changed.  The previous Alteryx versions used a visual popup that stayed on-screen and played the "Asterisk" Windows System Sound, but is now the "Open Program" sound.  I had no sound associated with the Open Program event, so selected one and thought the issue would be fixed.  However, there are many background programs that are constantly opening and closing on a PC (Win 11), so in addition to fixing the Alteryx notification sound issue, I was then hearing the same sound play every several seconds, which is maddening.

For now, I've turned off all sound on the Open Program event and resigned myself to not getting an audio prompt when a Workflow completes.  Unfortunate, because the visual notification is only a popup that disappears after a few seconds, which makes it even harder now to spot when the workflow is done unless I watch the screen constantly.

Experiencing same issue. Would like for it to go back to the "Asterisk" Windows System Sound."

I know this is quite an old thread now so may have already been solved, I found that checking the Snow Notification at Workflow Completion box solved the problem for me, running the workflow I know get a green banner on the bottom of the canvas and the completion notification sound.

Perhaps you didn't understand my description of the issue.  I have the Show Notification checked, and get the green bar at completion, but it disappears after a few seconds, unlike the earlier versions that left the notification on screen until the user cleared it.

As for the sound, I found that the sound played, not just once at completion, but repeatedly throughout the running of the workflow, which made for an annoyance.  It seems that the Windows "event" that triggered the playing of the sound had been changed, which seemed the cause of the constant playing of the sound that used to play just once.
