Hello everyone. I have a chained application where I need to take a constant found in the first analytic app,and pass it through to the second application.
In the example I have attached, I want to pass the user defined Constant of "ConnectString" into the second app, however when I try it doesn't recoginize the value (because it was defined in the first app).
Any help would be appreciated! :-)

Sorry, probably just used some misguided terminology...
The DSNs used should be set up as System DSNs (as opposed to User DSNs) and the Aliases should be set up as System Aliases (vs. User Aliases).
And I missed answering this...
In the Alias Manager setup in Alteryx, when you add an Alias, you have the choice between "Add User" or "Add System"...you should pick "Add System" which means any "user" on a workflow can use that Alias (just like for System DSNs).
Hope this is all clear.
Ahhhh I see. It looks ilke I actually can't set up the alias as a "system" option (that option is greyed out). This is actually true on my local desktop and also the server
Do you know why that would be? :-)
You need to be a System Administrator on the machine.
My option to "Add System" was also greyed out, so I closed Alteryx, then Right-clicked on the Alteryx icon on my desktop and chose "Run as Administrator". Then when Alteryx opened, that option was available. (But that only should work if you truly are a SysAdmin on the machine. )
Ah that was it! Thank you.
General question.... Is there a general preference for using an ODBC vs an OLEDB database connection? :-)
Thanks!
I think that is really a database question (i.e., it's not unique to Alteryx) which I'm not really that qualified to comment on.
Here is a really old post that is a general overview...http://sqlmag.com/sql-server/ole-db-or-odbc
Also, here's something from Microsoft (relevant since it seems they "invented" OLEDB )...https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/sqlnativeclient/2011/08/29/microsoft-is-aligning-with-odbc-for-nati.... They "encourage" adoption of ODBC. What's interesting is that Microsoft seems to be moving away from OLEDB...http://geekswithblogs.net/LifeLongTechie/archive/2014/06/19/oledb-going-away--microsoft-claims-to-be...
