Output of an IF statement is -1 instead of the desired text

I am trying to troubleshoot an IF statement that targets the field [ACCT TITLE].  Here is the statement.  Each referenced field is a V_String with a size of 255.

IF [ACCT] - '0390X' && [ORG]='A' THEN [ACCT TITLE] ='BLAH BLAH BLAH'

ELSE [ACCT TITLE]

ENDIF

The output for the rows that meet this criteria is -1 instead of the prescribed text output BLAH BLAH BLAH.

Where should I look?

Thanks.

Palm to face.  Ugh. I do not need to specific the field in the THEN statement.  Duh.
