Output Data tool (hyper or tde) vs Publish To Tableau Server tool

In anyone's experience, is there success having an Alteryx workflow save a .hyper or .tde file that is subsequently picked up by Tableau server as a live connection?  It appears that Tableau Server is constantly 'stepping' on the file that will not allow Alteryx to save a new version when the workflow is rerun. I'm guessing the fix is the publish to tableau server tool?  I have some firewall permissions to settle before I go down that road...
