Needing to Run Workflow for Fields to Populate?

Hi Everyone,

I wanted to get your input on this because I have been experiencing this for a while now - I thought it was a bug and I was just working through it until we upgraded, but it's starting to look more like a feature. I noticed this happening first with 2023.x a couple of months ago but with an upgrade to 2024.2 I am still experiencing this.

When building out a workflow, I have noticed that none of the downstream tools populate unless I run them or in some cases if I hit F5 (when the workflow is simple enough).

For example, I set up this simple workflow:

where this is the input:

 the select tool I added does not recognize any of the fields at first:

and only will if I hit F5. This used to populate automatically before. With more complicated workflows, even F5 doesn't populate the fields and I have had to run the workflow after adding every tool to get the fields to populate. 

Is this normal? If not, is there a fix for this?

@myastarling can you make sure the auto configuration is enabled in the user settings in the options menu
