Matching? Find & Replace

Hello Everyone,

TiffanyLy27_0-1651074475533.png

I have two documents, one with responses and and the other with manufacturer names... I am trying to find a match on the manufacturer name within the responses.

I used the 'Find & Replace' tool which seemed to have work, but not accurately?

Above is an example.  I got a match on 'Sirtex Medical Inc' but not the 'Boston Scientific Corporation' - I assume because the corporation is not included in the responses?

If anyone knows a better tool to achieve this output, please let me know :)

Suggest trying this approach:

Take your first document with the responses and add a RecordId

Use the Text to Columns tool to separate the text by your pipe symbol | and use the option Split to rows

compare the output above to your second document using the Fuzzy Match tool

This page "used to have" a video or two on Fuzzy matching: https://community.alteryx.com/t5/Videos/Video-Training-Index/td-p/45161

Not sure where most of the videos went.  I just asked the Community support team about the missing videos.

Then you can use your RecordId to join back to your original data stream(s)

Hi @ChrisTX ,

The above sample is actually a short version of the actual 'responses' - some of them are as big as two paragraphs in my actual dataset.. so the fuzzy match I tried didn't work.

How did the Fuzzy match not work..... did it time out?

If you're not able to get the manufacturer names stripped out of your Responses table, or the Responses.Manufacturer Name doesn't exactly match to your Manufacturer table, I can't think of any option for you.  If the names don't exactly match, you'll definitely need to use Fuzzy match.

@ChrisTX  It took a while to finish running and the dataset was blank when it was complete :(

You might need to spend some time with the Fuzzy Match.  Try the Tool Mastery article: https://community.alteryx.com/t5/Alteryx-Designer-Knowledge-Base/Tool-Mastery-Index/ta-p/84593

Check the option to include Generated Keys in the output.  If the Keys don't match then records won't match.

If the output is blank, it doesn't necessarily mean the tool didn't work.

Were you able to separate a single Resource row into separate rows using the Text to Columns tool?

The Community training videos are now under Learn > Academy > Videos   https://community.alteryx.com/t5/Videos/bd-p/live-training

It looks like the old Video Training Index (https://community.alteryx.com/t5/Videos/Video-Training-Index/td-p/45161) is now outdated, but it used to contain more than one video for Fuzzy Match.

The new Academy > Videos only has one Fuzzy Match video.

At the recent Inspire user conference in Denver, the Community team mentioned they are working on new plans for publishing their training videos.
