When i add a join tool(other tools as well but ill use join for an example) the left and right fields are blank and i have to run the workflow after i add each tool for it to populate the available fields for the join. Any suggestions as to why this is happening?

Hey @jordanmount6 ! Would you be able to provide a flow or example?

My guess would be that the field you are joining on can't find a common field to match up, so it has to create separate instances for those lines.

but once i run the flow, up to when it fails because i cant select anything to join on, the fields then populate for the left and right join. 

even on random text inputs it doesnt know what fields there are until i run the workflow

Check user settings and make sure Disable auto config is off
