I am making a workflow in which the input file and output file are same.
I have an excel file which contains 5 sheets in it.
I want to make a workflow which will help to update that specific sheet in which changes are made.
When i run the workflow it does not update the sheet rather it adds and extra tab in my existing excel file.
I want my workflow to update the existing sheet rather create a new tab in my excel file.

Can you confirm that your output data tool is configured to write to the same sheet you are reading in? There should be no issue unless the name is different… a workflow example would be best to see!
