How to give an alert message if no date selected in Analytic App

I have created an analytic app that shows the user the calendar to pick a date and pass it downstream, however the app by default selects today's date when run, how do i deselect any dates and alert with a popup to let them know to select a date?

I have tested this, and if I don't select any dates, it converts the date into '1900-01-01'. You can add a Filter tool to check if the date is '1900-01-01' and then use the Message tool to give your user an error.

Might be an Alteryx version issue, but it still selects today's date by default for me
