Given the following input file where you don't know what years are in it:
id, year, status

Desired output format:
id, status 1999, status 2000, status 2001, status 2004
1,1,1,1,1
2,1,2,2,null

Here is one potential solution.

Cross Tab tool does most of the work.

If you stick to the column name, you may want to add Dynamic Rename tool.
