How accurate is the mile calculation between GPS points?

I have GPS traces from a vehicles on the road.  How accurate is the spatial calc to actual driven miles on the road? 

 

Can I trust it?

Example of how to calculate distances for each segment. You can use a multi row tool to get a starting point and final point for each segment. I have attached a workflow as reference.

Thank you!!  Without this I would not have easily seen some discrepancies in the data.  Now I can get rid of some of the noise.
