Help w/ Error: "AlteryxProcessManager::Start: Timed out in DataWrap2_ConnectNamedPipe..."

Can anyone provide any color on what the error message means?

I have read other posts implying that simply disabling the firewall, or something similar, would do the trick. After testing the workflow with the antivirus software enabled and disabled, I'm confident that's not the issue.

For some context; my workflow has a macro that utilizes a dynamic input tool. This is the tool identified in the error. Unfortunately I can't provide a workflow or data as both are confidential.

Any information would be appreciated and I'm more than willing to field questions to help clarify anything.

Thank you!

hi all,

i am really struggling with this error, when designing the flow I had no issues after saving the file and reuse it - the problems started.

on the same screenshot, when trying to select the sheet, it doesn't even give me the chance to select the sheet, app freezes and after the error pops up.

also in general alteryx is very very slow. appreciate if someone can help. Haven't manage to fix it with the solutions suggested around this topic.

thank you

Hi @adan98

Can you send an email to support@alteryx.com? They can take a closer look and identify where things are breaking down for you. Normally if I see a workflow that is particularly slow it is due to a crosstab resulting in a massive number of columns. The metadata from all of these columns is stored in the workflow file itself so the actual file size of the workflow may appear to be larger than normal as well. Hopefully this helps!

Any resolution or did it resolve when upgrading?  Just encountered error running 2021.2 version.

@alexcordero Unfortunately I can't recall what the fix was to this issue, sorry about that.

Our error was in being thrown in a Dynamic Input tool.  We fixed by having the user substitute an IN clause vs. "=" and then click on the Group Replacement Value for SQL IN Clause in the Modify SQL: Update WHERE Clause selection.  Doesn't sound like this is what you were dealing with but generated the same error.

I had the same issue on a Dynamic Input Tool after I started adding tools after it.  I ended on a Select Tool and ran the workflow.  It then failed with a similar error as mentioned in the post.  I then added a Browse tool after the Select tool and the error went away and the data read in correctly.  I know this is an old article but maybe this will help someone.  I am using version 2022.3.1.395

I have noticed this on other tools as well - if you don't connect the output to something then the workflow will fail....
