Designer Crashes Predictably

nrossin

I am running Alteryx 20.1.

I can edit and run a particular workflow just fine. However, after running, if I try to select a tool to see it's output, Alteryx crashes every single time.

There are no error messages (other than the standard Windows 10 "This application has stopped working" error) and no error logs that I can find.

Since the workflow contains proprietary information, I am not able to share it here.

How do I go about trying to diagnose the cause of the crash if there are no logs being generated? Are the logs stored somewhere other than the AppData/Local/Alteryx/Log folder?

You can enable logs by going to the user settings - Options > User Settings > Edit User settings.

However, I'm not sure how helpful those will be. Can you try re-installing Designer? You'll just need to re-execute the installer. It will automatically uninstall the current instance that you have in the process.

Thank you for the reply, echuong1.

Unfortunately, I work in an enterprise environment and do not have administrator rights in order to reinstall. The logs were not helpful since they don't report application errors, it seems.

I did narrow it down to only crashing when I try to view the output of one particular macro, though. This also only happens if the workflow has already been run.

After opening the offending macro and running it with test data, I am able to view its output without an issue. It is only when trying to view the macro output within the parent workflow that is causing the crash.

EDIT: The crash also occurs when trying to view the input of the following tool.
