Density Based Grid

Question

Months ago, I came across a great video/post out there about using population density to drive a grid size creation in the US.  i.e. the grid would be smaller in the urban areas and larger in rural.  Does anyone have experience creating something like this or remember this particular post/set of videos?

@CharlieS This is getting closer!  Thanks for the reply.  It was very specifically creating a grid on the US based on population density.  However, what you provided might help me get going.  Appreciate the response.

So here's another take on this on how you can have grids change size based on a rule that you set.

The trick here is that the "Grid Size" field in the Make Grid tool cannot be updated from the datasteam of connected tools, but you can still dynamically change that value using a batch macro. This macro doesn't group the input records into batches, but uses the Control Parameter to update that Grid Size value.

In the attached example, I created a formula to change the grid size based on the diagonal length of the polygon input. The larger the polygon, the larger the grids. This is just one example, but might get the ideas flowing. Check out the attached workflow and let me know what you think.
