Connection to SQL Server DB, Error [IM004]

Hi All,

I'm getting the following error when connection to SQL Server DB: ''Connection Error: ERROR [IM004] [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Driver's SQLAllocHandle on SQL_HANDLE_ENV failed''

I'm looking to connect to a SQL Server DB which previously (before I switched laptops) was never a problem.

Since I switched I'm getting the error in the screenshot below and I'm kind of lost as to why this is occurring. I'm getting this error both when running locally via Designer (2018.3) and when connecting through Alteryx server (this gallery connection worked fine previously).

Interestingly enough I can connect to the DB fine via SQL Server Management Studio.

I appreciate this has been marked as closed but I've spent a bit of time trying to find where the Alteryx SQL drivers are in order to redownload them, having encountered the same issue. Is anyone able to point me in the right direction?

I can able to open builder before running my query only after that it throwing the error.

And if I close the Alteryx app and relaunch it then it's working that too before run only.

I'm using ODBC drive 12.1

Yes same issue as highlighted by KbsNaidu above, the problem goes away after restarting Alteryx before running the workflow. It reappears after each execution. There should a way to restart the drive instead of closing Alteryx

Does anyone know if there is a solution for this? I updated to the newest version of Alteryx and still have the same problem.

I've had the same problem, as have several people that I work with.

It works fine the first few times, then throws the above error from then on, which requires a restart of Alteryx to fix. This can be quite annoying if there's a lot of data cached already.

Some people have suggested reinstalling a driver, but the link provided no longer works. Anyone have any ideas?

We have this issue in our company as well and the only users that do not have this happen to them have local admin rights on their machines. All users that don't have Local Admin on their computers get the error after 1-2 runs of the workflow. We have also found that changing the connection from Oracle ODBC to OCI has helped for some users. This is related to Oracle databases. This wont help for Microsoft SQL Server.

Validate that your system environmental variables are also setup correctly with the ORACLE_HOME, PATH, and TNS_ADMIN setup properly. (specific to Oracle installs). Each of these should point to the location of your Oracle installation and appropriate sub folders.

The driver version also has to match your Alteryx version. Alteryx 64 bit should have the Oracle 64 bit driver installed. If you are running older 32 bit Alteryx, the 32 bit Oracle driver will need to be installed.

I have the same error message and I have reinstalled a new version of the ODBC drivers with the latest version, but the message reappears; this does not solve the problem. Does anyone have a solution?

@Ninfa Validate that you have the correct version of the driver. Should be 64-bit if you are running 64-bit Alteryx. Also verify that the DSN is created properly and that you have your Environmental Variables in windows pointed to the correct Oracle installation.

I'm having the same issue, does anyone know how to fix this issue? I'm using instaclient_12_2.
