Chart tool loses formatting when connected with Layout tool 24..1

I have worked with Alteryx for years and never come across this.. When formatting a chart tool (Stacked Column Chart), I can set colors, labels, ect... once i attach a layout tool, i lose all formatting and labels, etc... is this a known issue? how do i fix this?>
