Anchor Abbreviation on tools other than Macro Input and Outputs

Has anyone modified the XML for a regular tool to include an Anchor Abbreviation?  For example the Select tool.  Tried to add in the <Abbrev></Abbrev> tags used in the Macro Input and Output tools but not having any luck.

Could you explain why you want to modify standard tools in this way?

For clearly labeled connections.  I am connecting several different regular tools to macro input anchors and it would be nice (workflow is wireless) to tie these together clearly with the anchor abbreviation.
